If you've been a loyal reader of this blog (yes, all 2 of you...), you know that I've spent some time discussing problems I've had with an analog atomic clock from LaCrosse Technologies. When the daylight saving time rules changed last year, a clock I had bought from Costco failed to recognize the new dates because of programming that was different than what was installed in their digital clocks. I gave them full credit for acknowledging the issue and sending a replacement.
I was concerned last October when the replacement clock 'fell back' a week early, on the old date and figured that the problem would still be there this spring. Sure enough, when we woke up last Sunday morning, the new clock didn't do its thing. So I reset it and leaned it up against the doorwall to make sure it was getting a good signal. The clock promptly set the time an hour off.
So, the replacement 'fixed' clock has the exact same problem that the original had. Because we live in the Eastern time zone, the only way to get the clock to display the correct time is to a manual set. Not a big deal to be sure, but it defeats the purpose of having an atomic clock if it needs to be set manually.
I'm not sure if I should bother complaining to LaCrosse again. I'm thinking that unless they can really prove that the problem has been fixed, it'd be a waste of time to start the dialog all over again. Then again, if they want to keep sending me free clocks....
And who knows, maybe the government will eventually realize this whole time change thing is ridiculous and either go back to the old way or just make daylight saving time permanent since we're doing it for 8 months of the year already.
