It wasn't that many years ago that a career in radio was considered a glamorous type of job. Those days are pretty much gone for good unless you're already an established name or someone that can cross over into TV or movies successfully. With all of the constant pressure radio is under on the business end, I don't know how anyone other than those with an obvious boatload of talent and limitless love of the medium can succeed.
My Oakland Press Radio Column today, Radio becoming more a labor of love, has info on the problems media giant Clear Channel is having in it's attempt to move from a publicly traded company to a privately held entity and on the merger of satellite radio companies XM and Sirius.
Most of the news from our local stations these days is less about what you hear on the radio and more about who's being fired because of budget cuts.
