A different point of view on radio

|

In recent weeks there have been countless articles written in trade publications about how radio is a dying medium. Although I agree to a certain extent, I'm also convinced that the biggest problem lies solely in the hands of big broadcasting companies that have only one desire -- to squeeze as much money out of their investments as possible before they bail out.

With the extra week off of writing the column that I had due to scheduling issues my counterpart Art Vuolo has in March, I tried to find some examples to prove that radio is still alive and has the potential to be just as relevant as any other type of media. Thanks to Kwame Kilpatrick, finding examples was pretty easy. Although there aren't always high-profile topics like the controversy surrounding Detroit's mayor available to lean on, the right people could still save radio...if they weren't all being taken out in budget cuts.

Here's my Oakland Press column printed today, March 9: Radiothon, interviews prove death of radio greatly exaggerated
