In the big bucks world of NASCAR racing, nothing is sacred. To the rest of the country, it's probably no big deal that Joe Gibbs Racing has decided to dump Chevy in favor of Toyota. No doubt it was all based on money.
But here in Motown, this kind of thing is news - and it's not good news for Gibbs sponsors. For me, I have an option to either go to Home Depot (sponsor of Gibbs' #20 car driven by Tony Stewart) or Lowes (sponsor of Hendrick's #48 car driven by Jimmie Johnson). So now that Home Depot will be sponsoring a Toyota, I'll be spending my money with Lowe's, which will be sponsoring a Chevy. I won't be making any big protests - just taking my business elsewhere despite my 'habit' of choosing Home Depot first.
It's a tougher decision about what to do with shipping companies. I don't send many packages, but I guess now instead of looking at either UPS or FedEx (both sponsoring Toyota), I'll be be pretty much using the USPS whenever possible.
Will it make a difference? Probably not - but I hope there are others here in Detroit that will choose Lowe's over Home Depot now.
