"Snow" Day!

|

Even though there hasn't been much snow around here this year, the kids got the day off from school today because of the bitter cold weather. Below zero actual temperatures and wind chill readings of around 25-30 below were enough for many districts to throw in the towel because their buses wouldn't start and/or they were concerned about the kids walking to school or waiting for a bus.

I remember snow days from when I was a kid. Back then it seemed there were plenty of 'em and most of those were because of heavy snow. Which made the day off from school an excellent adventure in snow fort building, sledding, and basically spending the entire day outside playing.

Today was a bit different around here. Even though the sun was out, there were no kids to be seen outside playing. The few inches of snow on the ground is just powder and can't be used to even make a snowball. The wind was cold enough to take your breath away and hardly something I wanted to send my preschooler and 1st grader out in.

So today's snow day consisted of playing with hotwheels, building block towers, and watching Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. It's not quite the same as having a snowball fight with neighborhood friends, but at least they seemed to have fun at home with dad all day.

Maybe the next snow day around here will actually be because of snow. Which reminds me... maybe I should put the lawnmower away and get the snowblower out? Naaaaaaaa..... that'd be bad luck!
