Remember when they said society was going paperless?

|

It sure hasn't happened since that phrase was first uttered about 20 years ago. There seems to be no escaping the amount of paper that is brought into our house every day. While some of it has been moved to electronic delivery, there is still an incredible amount of stuff on paper that makes it way into our "filing" system. This is especially true with all the paper that we get from the kids' schools. It seems every day there are 5 or 10 or 15 pieces of paper that get sent home. It's easy to say just pitch it before it gets put onto a pile or filed - but reality is there are two adults that usually want to read/see it and we both get to things at different times.

All I know is that our shredder isn't big enough when we finally get around to trying an throwing out some of the paper that gathers in the file cabinets over the years. It'd be nice to be able to stay "current" on that task... but who does that?

The amount of "memberships" and such just keeps growing too. It doesn't seem like there is a store left without some type of loyal shopper program that comes complete with its own little key chain card. And if you don't use those little cards, often you are penalized by paying higher prices or missing out on discount coupons in the future. And what do you get with your membership? Usually more paper in the mail...

It's pretty rare when someone mentions the paperless society these days. I just wish it seemed like a real possibility.
