Just got back home from Oakland Mall where we watched the last couple hours of another record setting Radiothon for the Salvation Army's Bed and Bread Club. There really is no good way to describe what a wonderful event Dick Purtan and crew have pulled together over the past 20 years- but today's record pledge total of about $2.4 million really shows how much the community is behind this effort. Nowhere in the USA will you find the kind of generosity displayed from the area's big-shooters down to the average family.
The whole event is something special, and it seems to now have taken on a life of its own. Every year it seems like Purtan's goal of making just $1 more than the previous year will be something tough to overcome- but then every year another new record is set.
