If you're in to thrill rides, I can definitely say that Cedar Point is an excellent place to go. In fact, in my case, the place is too intense for my old, out of practice body. You can subject yourself to such a variety of different forces, it's incredible that anyone can walk out of the place without assistance. It's hard for me to believe, but my last Cedar Point trip was around 1992- before Mantis, Millennium Force, Raptor, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster existed. After riding Raptor, Wicked Twister, Magnum XL200, and Millennium Force, along with the classic Gemini, Blue Streak, and Wildcat coasters - it was plenty of thrills for me. There were several times the experience caught up to me, leaving me feel wobbly with a bit of a headache. Warning signs for sure...
One other thing stuck out from yesterday's visits - the number of people essentially passed out on benches and the numerous times we saw ambulance carts driving around. These are things I don't remember seeing on my last visit 10+ years ago. I hear that Demon Drop is on its way out - it's up for sale for $250k if you're interested - and I can definitely say that riding that after doing Raptor was a big letdown. As you enter the park now, Demon Drop is barely noticeable with the backdrop of all the newer, bigger rides. And to think that when Demon Drop opened it was worthy of hour-plus waits and the sight of it when you entered the parking lot was (at the time of course) awe inspiring.
After my visit yesterday, I have to wonder how much further these rides can go. It seems that as it is they are pretty much at the edge of what most humans can handle without extensive training. And although there are warning signs at each ride, they need to add a disclaimer on your ticket: If you're over 35 years old and are out of practice - take it easy. Pay attention to what you're body is telling you so you're not the one riding in one of those ambulance carts.
Top sign that you're getting too old for these big rides at Cedar Point? When you're more intrigued with the engineering behind them and are completely content to watch instead of ride.
